How would internet work with a pre-paid phone?

I want to get a pre-paid phone with internet on it, but how would that work? Would you just buy the minutes for the internet ahead of time and every minute or hour you’re on it takes minutes away?

it depends on the carrier. i no that for at&t it charges ur account for how much data is transfered. for others, it charges u for how long ur on.
